38 weeks!

I went for an ultrasound on Thursday because my doctor (and every other person on the planet) said I was too small to have a 38 week old baby. Well I have news for you science, according to ultrasound measurements on Thursday, July 23rd, Beck was exactly 38 weeks and 0 days which is also exactly how far along I am. The ultrasound also predicted him to weigh right at 7 pounds. So while that was all good news to hear, the biggest news is I am dilated and effaced enough to have this baby at any minute and he will most definitely be here within the week.

Here are 2 sets of ultrasound pictures, 1 from 20 weeks and 1 from 38- such a big difference!

On a side note, I lost my 3rd set of ultrasound pictures and found this in their place...

Blog Update

My friend, Oprah, told me the other day that pedophiles like to get online and find blogs/facebook/myspace with baby pictures on it and use those to tickle their fancy. Then I got to thinking, if I happened to post about a future vacation to Hawaii (read, Henderson) and said we'd be gone a week, then any stalkers would be free to know we're out of town and come rob us! AND what if we happened to leave Beck at home or in the airport (read, gas station)...
HELLO WET BANDITS.
Since I think there are more creeps out there than I'd like to imagine, I'm gonna go ahead and be proactive and make this blog private. This is where you come in. The only way for you to be able to see the blog after I make it private is to go ahead and become a follower now while it's open to anyone. To become a follower go to the left hand side under Followers and click on "join this site." This will take you to a window that says "sign in using an account you've already created." If you have a google, aim or yahoo account, you're in luck- just click on whichever account you've already create, sign in and then choose to follow this blog.

If you haven't already made an account its reallllllly easy. Again, go to Followers on the right hand side and click on "join this site." This will take you to a window that says "sign in using an account you've already created." Instead of this, look down, and click on "Create a new Google Account." This will then take you to a new window where you just type in your information and wa-la you have an account. At the last window you'll be taken to, all you have to do is click "follow this blog" and you're finished!!!

I'm hoping this is simple enough to figure out, some of the people I'd like to be able to read the blog the most are not the most internet inclined- let me know if you're having trouble.

Also, while we're on the topic of using this blog, when you see a word written in green like the word "condo" in The House That Todd Built or "While I may think my baby is cute" in A Face Only a Mother Could Love these are links that will take you to another site. Click on these and enjoy.

A Face Only a Mother Could Love

Isn't it the worst when you go see a newborn baby, or any baby for that matter, and they're ugly? What do you do? It's like when your friend gets a noticeably awful haircut... do you have to say it looks good even though everyone knows they'll be wearing a hooded jacket outdoors and in ala Jenny Weber circa 1994 (the things I would do for a picture right here). I'm of the school of thought that you just don't mention the bad haircut and if you must, you certainly don't come out saying "It looks so good!" That doesn't make you a friend, that makes you a liar.

I'd like to go on record saying I'd like the same principle to be applied to my child. Newborn babies are ugly. Their heads are misshaped, they're wrinkled and covered in nasty body goo. While I may think my baby is cute (although I think I'll even know he's funny looking at best), I certainly do not expect you to. Now, I know you have to say something if you see him in my presence- after all, I just had a baby. Here are some acceptable comments:

"Oh, look how small he is!"
"Look at all that hair!!!" (I've had bad heartburn, I hear that leads to hairiness- lets hope in the acceptable places. My sister saw a baby who's forehead was hairier than tophead. If this happens, no hair comments please)
"He looks just like his daddy" (bahahaha)

Any comment on cute fingers/toes are fine because small fingers/toes are cute. You're welcome to call him chunky or tell me his fat legs are cute. But please, we're in a maternity ward, God's in the building, don't let our son's first days in the world be full of lies.

If you honestly think my baby is cute then you can certainly say so, who knows, he may take after his mom and be ridiculously good looking his entire life... :)

(I'm the bronzed goddess dressed as a boy-thanks Mom)

As a disclaimer, after a bit, babies start to make a turn around and become cute. If you still think my baby is ugly then, by all means, lie through your teeth.

Swanglish?

As part of my job at Kentucky Refugee Ministries, I'm responsible for helping kids get involved with after school activities. Since soccer season is starting, I've been swamped with kids and their parents in my office signing papers, getting sports physicals, trying on cleats (if they don't wear 7.5, my size, they don't get any), etc. So, last week one of our clients came in to sign some papers for her son to tryout at Henry Clay and brought along her younger son who's 6. While I was going through the registration papers with the mom, I offered her son some candy. Now this candy has been sitting in my desk for atleast a year, its nasty, otherwise it wouldn't have made it past the first month of me using this desk. He takes a piece, runs around the office and comes back for more candy, this time yelling "This is poo poo, this is poo poo!"

UMMM..... WHAT?

Last time I saw this kid, he didn't speak a word of English, and now he's telling me my candy is "poo poo"? On one hand, I get it, this candy really is poo poo. It is GROSS. On the other hand, if my candy is "poo poo" why are your chubby little fingers pawing 8 more pieces?? After chuckling a little, I toss it up to "poo poo" meaning something in Swahili like "good," or "moderately tasting candy but I'm about to go into diabetic shock and am forced to eat it." A form of Swanglish if you will (SWAhili and enNGLISH).

Fast forward 1 week.

I'm out front of their house picking up the oldest son for soccer tryouts. The youngest comes out and asks if he can come too. His mom tells him no and I said, maybe next time (not), and he screams "THIS IS POO POO!!! THIS IS POO POO!!!!!"

I think its safe to say this little man has a mastery of the English language. And he likes to eat poo poo.

***On a side note, if you're in to writing/calling your Representatives please ask Representative Chandler and Representative Rogers for the House of Appropriations Committee to not cut ORR funding for the upcoming fiscal year. President Obama has recommended $741 million be appropriated for refugee resettlement and we're asking them to at least keep that number, but certainly not decrease it. If for nothing else, to get some better tasting candy.***

The House That Todd Built

After many crying phone calls (Seth's), text messages and especially "Todd Damnits," we have finallllllly moved into our new place! Since our condo* (<--- click) was just built, there were so many last minute setbacks that stalled us from completely moving in on time. Thankfully, we were able to move most things in and just had to wait for a few finishing touches (who needs mirrors when you look this good?) So, without further ado, here are pictures of Beck's nursery!

One side of the room

St Louis Cardinals mobile

And the other side
(If you notice on the left hand wall, there are ultrasound pictures hanging up. Seth thinks these are creepy- I would think after living with me he would have a higher creep tolerance)

There may or may not be a shark on the bottom shelf...

*we don't live in a condo.
