Mommas

You don't appreciate your mom until you become a mom. I realized that the very first day Beck was born. I could not believe how much I loved him just because I was his mom and then realized, wow, that must be how much my mom loves me. Moms go through weeks of sleep deprived torture just because they love their baby. We don't shower, we wear throw up as perfume and we get pooped on weekly all for a little boy with a bald head and a baby mullett. The 6 weeks I got to spend with Beck after he was born, were the best 6 weeks of my life. Seth has gotten the pleasure of spending the past couple weeks doing daddy daycare rather than going to work. These couple of weeks Beck has also started to really recognize people. Seth and Beck have really bonded lately and when Seth walks in the door Beck shrugs his shoulders, curls up his legs and grins from ear to ear. When I walk in the door...

NOTHING!!

Ummm excuse me child, do you not remember July 30th at 5:46 PM? Do you not remember waking me up every single hour for 3 weeks straight to eat? Do you not remember the huge dump you took on me as soon as I changed into my first cute outfit post delivery? Do you not remember when my boobs swelled up to the size of cantalopes and it even hurt to breath? You must not remember when I got a 102 fever, awful headache and AGAIN painful boobs from an infection you gave me! Don't tell me you remember your 2 week checkup when I ran out of the doctor's office with a nice red stain on the back of my dress after cleaning up a nice red suprise that fell all over the floor. Do you not remember everything I've done for you? Do you not remember me??????

I guess he doesn't remember the way I don't remember November 20th, 1984. The way I don't remember telling my mom I'd cut her eye out with a piece of "gwass" at 2 (Hmm... what did they let me watch on TV). And the way I don't remember all she's done for me even yesterday. Being a mom can be a thankless job but it's all worth it to see that boy smile to anyone, even if it's not me. I'll get those smiles one day, I'll just buy him better presents.

So a big thank you to my mom, Seth's mom and all moms. For loving us so much it hurts and letting us poop on you too.

Long Time No Post

Things here have been the same as always with nothing really to write about- Beck's still eating all the time, waking up once or twice in the night and Nana Millie's still sending him home in poop. However, Beck does have a new friend... the octopus on his play mat. He'll lay on the mat and stare and laugh for about 10-15 minutes before he decides he'd rather have some live company. It may not seem like much, but it's amazing the things we can get done in 10 minutes without a baby on the hip.

Does this look like Robbie?

Beck's First Playoffs

Even though the Cardinals have lost 8 of their last 10 games, they're looking to really turn it on during the playoffs. With a pitching staff that consists of Chris Carpenter and Adam Wainwright (both worthy of the Cy Young award) and fans this cute...

how can they go wrong?

And let's get real... Albert Pujols... better luck next year Dodgers.

Turtles

After a big day of football, Seth, Beck and I all fell asleep in the living room (which is happening all to frequently- I have a permanent crick in my neck).

I woke up around 10:00 and sat and watched TV waiting for Beck to wake up. Since he wasn't facing me, I was just waiting for him to start making grunting noises and then cry which is his normal wake up routine. Around 11:00, I started to hear him laugh really hard which he sometimes does in his sleep. When I got up to check on him, this is what I found.

(He has a turtle mobile on his swing)

He Didn't Cry!

At Beck's 2 month checkup on Wednesday, he got his second set of immunizations which was the first set I was around for. He was getting hungry before the nurse came in to give him his shots so I gave him a bottle while we were waiting. Before he could finish it, the nurse came in so I had to take it away from him. He started to cry which I thought was good for me- if he's already crying then it won't seem like he's in extra pain when they give him his shots.

WRONG

He didn't cry, he WAILED. It was AWFUL!!! The poor thing turned bright red and just screamed and screached. What was worse was nothing could make him feel better. I cuddled him, gave him his paci, gave him MILK and nothing helped. He did finally calm down to my cuddling... ok, to his bottle... but wow, was that tough. I think Seth will get the pleasure of taking him to his next visit.

The poor thing was still hurting at night too- it was such a sad, pathetic, "I just want to be held" whimper/cry, I never wanted to put him down. We gave him some Baby Tylenol (I can not believe how teeny the bottle/dosage is) and that little miracle worker in a bottle was a Godsend. He slept til 3:00 am! Woohoo! I think we'll give him Tylenol every night, just kidding, I would never do that, just kidding, we'll give him Ambien, just kidding...

Thankfully, we got our happy boy back in time to watch the Cats game.
